We are excited to announce that Dr. Laurel Murrow is now serving as Mercy Health Center’s Medical Director! Mercy’s board of directors have been prayerfully searching for a medical doctor who would serve in this role for several years and are delighted that Dr. Murrow has accepted the position.
In addition to her role at Mercy, Dr. Murrow is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the GRU/UGA Medical Partnership, where she teaches community health to first year students. She received her B.A. from Wellesley College, her M.Sc. from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and her M.D. from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She completed her residency at Emory University and holds Board Certification in Internal Medicine. Dr. Murrow’s interests and activities focus on health literacy and improving health in underserved populations. She serves on the boards of the Athens Health Network, UGA HEROS, and the Georgia Alliance for Health Literacy.
Dr. Murrow lives in Bishop with her husband, Dr. Jonathan Murrow, and their three daughters: Madeleine, Ella and Sophie. The Murrows are active members of Ashford Memorial Methodist Church, where they teach Sunday school to the lower elementary class.
Thanks to Athens Church’s 2013 Be Rich Campaign, Dr. Murrow’s salary was covered for her first year on staff. This was an enormous blessing. Thank-you Athens Church! Please take a moment to watch our “Thank-You” video by clicking HERE.
